Day 4

Day 4 Recap: Maryland Missteps

Today, on Day 4, the temperatures finally cooled down a bit, and we were almost tempted to turn on the heat during our morning in Maryland. We started with an almost perfect calibration run and thought the morning was going great—until we realized we had taken a wrong turn…. More then five minutes onto the street!

We eventually got back in line, completely ignoring speeds and going around nine other race cars to regain our position. Unfortunately, we were not fast enough because we hit a checkpoint one car away from being in the correct order. We quickly got over it when Della saw the charcuterie board at today’s lunch stop.

After lunch, we continued rallying and had the chance to visit the Gettysburg historical sites around the town. The GR took us on a driving tour of the monuments, which neither of us had seen before. The day ended with a high score of 1 minute and 24 seconds (oops!), but the historical sites were interesting to see.

  • Today's lunch stop was a private car collection.

  • We arrived and toured Gettysburg.

  • Aaron showed us his lucky charm. I had been finding pennies on the ground but haven't seen one since Sunday. Della will be planting the lucky penny for me to find in the morning.

  • We came into town with non-functioning tail lights. Hal from Quick Everett Garage (who is traveling with the race) diagnosed and fixed the wiring.
